People started to settle the area 8,000 years ago. When the city was discovered, it has been found that it’s back in the history to over 1000 BCE. There are two main theories about city discovery.
 
Back in the day, Prince Androklos from Athens has discovered the city, when he followed the oracle of Delphi’s saying of “letting the fish and boat show you the way”. The second myth tells that finding Ephesus was more spectacular. Amazon warrior women, the queen Ephos, has discovered the city and named it after her name.

Where is Ephesus Turkey located?

The most fabulous part is the location of Ephesus. Nested between soft green hills with wildflowers. The ancient columns feel like in a movie scene. The pretty Aegean Sea was used to be located in front of the city, but the sea receded because of deforestation and erosion. There are still swimming spots in a nearby town with a sparkling azure beach called Kusadasi. Ephesus is about 6.5h from Istanbul. If you go via air, the flight takes only 1h from Istanbul to Kusadasi.

The temple of Artemis is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was rebuilt three times before it has almost been destroyed in 401CE.
Antipater of Sidon, who created the seven wonders exploded “I have seen the wall of lofty Babylon and the situation of Zeus by Ephesus, and the hanging gardens, the bulk of the sun, also the great big labor of the high pyramids, the wide tomb of Mausolus; but when I saw the amazing house of Artemis that seals on the clouds, these other miracles lost their splendor”.

When was Ephesus Turkey discovered?

The Archaeologists excavated Ephesus in 1863. Today Ephesus is one of the biggest archaeological highlights of the eastern Mediterranean. By reconstructing the buildings, Ephesus became very notable, famous and have a great magnificent look at the Library of Celsus.

The fall of Ephesus begun in 263 CE when Goths attacked Ephesus and destroy many parts of it. Then An earthquake crushed and brought more collapse for buildings in the year 614. Once again the big city has returned to a small and quiet village. At that time Ephesus was in the Ottoman Empire.
