The Best Birthday Ever
, 10/8/13
This was my first trip to Egypt. Memphis Tours Egypt was very helpful in organising everything, down to the smallest detail. I had the opportunity to have one of the most amazing day tours of my life on my birthday, courtesy of Memphis Tours. I mentioned the day before that the next day would be my birthday and I was asked to give the office a call in the morning, reminding them, which I did. After breakfast we were transferred to the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor and visited the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple at El Deir El Bahari, and the Colossi of Memnon. Our guide, Hany Shafik was very attentive and knowledgeable. He found out that it was my birthday as well and arranged for me to sit next to the driver of the small cart taking us back from Hatshepsut Temple to the minivan, so that I had first rate view of the surroundings. The driver gave me a small scarab as a gift. Upon our return to the ship for lunch & afternoon tea we took up sail to Edfu via the Esna Lock. We had dinner on board in Esna. Before desert was served, I suddenly noticed some commotion and the sound of drums. I immediately realised that it's the celebration of my birthday arranged by Memphis Tours and the staff of the Sonesta Nile Goddess Cruiser. It was a band of musicians, who came to our table and played a great drum based tune for me. They brought me a birthday cake too. I then went around to all tables and offered some to the other guests, to take part in the celebration. The evening was crowned by my and my travel companion's nocturnal trip to Esna temple, where we had tea at a local cafe, accompanied by our guide Hany Shafik, who shared his after hours time with us. It couldn't have been a more special day. I'd like to thank Memphis Tours for all their effort and professionalism. I will be back.

Unforgetable Tour Handled by Memphis Tours
, 7/14/12
The Nile cruise of Senista Star staff and fleet handled by Memphis Tours was wonderful! Mohamed Mukhtar, our tour manager in Memphis tours Cairo is top-notch of the tourism industry as shown from the reservations state side and who provided immediate responses to our inquiries and many questions prior to booking and arrival. The food was superb and staff was friendly and professional and made a great difference in the trip and most memorable. Ala El Sawy, our English tour guide, was great and very knowledgeable of the Egyptian history and spoke most eloquently. We’ll remember him always and hope that we will be in his group again. My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves so much that we will repeat this tour again in December 2012. Much success and thank you, Kareem and Kimberly Khalil.

Custom Service with Memphis
, 10/9/11

My husband and myself had been planning a trip to egypt "pre" the revolution. Wasn't sure whether to do on our own or with a service. Read the reviews on trip advisor and decided to reach out to Memphis. So glad we did. Had specific requirements on what we wanted to do and what hotels we wanted to stay. They came up with an itinerary that worked perfectly and we did it late September. Did not have to worry about anything, Memphis met us at airports, with representatives, arranged flights, arranged tour on Nile arranged tour guides/egyptologists, adjusted itinerary so we could do just that little bit more, including bicycling the west bank of Luxor before boarding our ship on the Nile.

Thank you Memphis. My husband is a history buff and he really enjoyed the enlightenment of our Egyptologists guides.

Only gripe - and we did mention this to Memphis - the :lunch buffets in Cairo were not commensurate with the rest of the service we received with Memphis.

Friends - this is a great time to visit Egypt - with less crowds. We loved talking with all the Memphis reps/Egyptologists about the "Revolution", "Arab Spring" and the overall transition. Progress and democracy takes time and it is a fascinating time. Very telling that on our cruise - of the approximate 88 people on our Nile cruise - only about 5 were American. The Europeans are going and of the 5 American (which include husband and self) - we were at least for four of us - were naturalized citizens in the US (I am Irish and husband Indian - or parents were from south america (saw a review from them on this site). Very telling. Ignore the media hype! I felt really safe - safe enough to cycle around the west bank of Luxor on our own steam. You just need to get used to the security presence there to protect the tourists. Heck Sean Penn was protesting in Cairo the day before we left. If you ever wanted to go to Eygpt - now is the time to go - history is in the making!

“Excellent tour company with a wonderful guide on a Nile Cruise”
, 1/26/11
Got in touch with Memphis just as I was about to book a Aswan-Luxor, 3 night Nile cruise with another company. Memphis astounded me with the prompt responses. With other operators, I would email 3 questions, wait a day (time change) for a response and only get 1 question answered. And so it went back and forth for a few weeks. With Memphis, Mohammed Amer was so fast, he must have lived in the office as he always seemed to be online and was very good at answering all my questions. Booking was a breeze. On arrival in Aswan, the Memphis driver and our guide, Ahmed, met us at our hotel and drove us around town looking for a bank machine that would accept our card. We then transfered to our boat, the MS Nile Dolphin, which was wonderful (see separate review)! Our guide on the boat was another Ahmed, and he was fantastic. His knowledge of Egyptian history was truly impressive. He organized our day tours and was always there if there were any issues. Our group was 11, a good size, and Memphis offers some nice extra touches, like a cell phone during your trip and water and soft drinks during your excursions. Although a bottle of wate is inexpensive to buy, it is a very nice touch that Memphis includes it.
Part of our tour included a felucca ride in Aswan. There was some confusion so we were given a motor boat ride instead - still nice, but not as peaceful. Ahmed quickly offered to get us a felucca ride in Luxor to make up for it - without us even asking. Truly great service.
Our only comment would be regarding tipping. Memphis gave us the option to tip by hand (individually) or to group tip a fixed amount per person per day. Most go with the group tip to avoid the perceived hassle. We decided to do the group tip as we thought it would be easier, however, in hindsight, we should have done it individually. We were still hassled for tips regardless and we have no idea how much and who received tips in the end. By tipping individually you control who the money goes to and can tip more or less based on the service and experience you have.

“When in Egypt depend on Memphis Tours!”
, 1/20/11
Just returned from my second visit to Egypt in 12 months, my first experience being so incredible that it prompted a more comprehensive visit. Both times we used Memphis Tours - we couldn't be more pleased with our selection.

Ahmed Shalpy was my online consultant He was completely professional and responsive to all my questions during the planning stage of our trip, always with a "can do" attitude and prompt response time in customizing our itinerary.

At our request, our tour representative in Cairo was Hamada Roshdi (who always wears a big infectious smile), our guide Ameni, and driver Sayed. We stayed at the 5 star Fairmont Nile City and took the 4 day Luxor-Aswan Nile River cruise on the Sonesta Nile Goddess. The days were filled with sightseeing, shopping (at our request) and eating.

For 3 of us, this was our 2nd Egypt trip, and for 3 the first. But for all of us, this was a totally top notch, amazing experience. Our Memphis team was completely flexible in adjusting our daily plans and working in personal requests, very knowledgeable, and knowing what foodies we are, found us the best restaurants and local snack places.

In our 10 days, we managed to visit the pyramids at Giza, take a camel ride, take in the light show, tour Sakkara and Memphis, take a day trip to Alexandria which included the Citadel, the Philae Pillars, Catacombs, tour the Alexandria library, fly to Luxor for the 4 day Nile cruise to Aswan (temples at Karnak and Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Colossi of Memnon, Horus temple @ Edfu, Kom Ombo), take a day trip to Abu Simbel (Memphis even provided day rooms at a hotel in Aswan to rest in until our evening flight back to Cairo), tour coptic Cairo (the Hanging Church, Abu Sirga Church, first Synagogue), visit Mosques, the Citadel, shopping in Khan al Khalili bazaar, tour the Egyptian Museum, and have the most wonderful Egyptian meals - and probably so much more than I can remember. Our days were packed from morning to night, our Memphis team putting in long days with us.

Anyone visiting Egypt with any tour company will see all the wonderful sights we did, but Memphis Tours made our visit a memorable and fun trip. We could not have had a better experience. In reading some of the complaints filed on TA, I would point out that no travel is completely without some mixups and problems. It is how the problems are met and resolved the makes the difference. Memphis is eager to try to resolve any problems and constantly asks for feedback in order to improve service. While everything is booked thru Memphis, not all things are under their control; e.g., the hotel, the cruise and the food and guides provided by the cruise.

I would not hesitate to use Memphis again (and probably will). I am all about service, and can say Memphis Tours does not disappoint. A first class operation at a very reasonable price.

Tips: Go to a bank and get a roll of coins (50 piastres or 1 pound) for bathroom tipping (about 5 to 10 cents). If you plan to shop in local markets, do exchange for Egyptian pounds. You will get a better price since the vendors will round off the exchange when setting the price - you can always use spare pounds at the end of your trip in your tips to the driver and guides. The service charge included in your restaurant bill, does not go to your server(s). If you wish to leave a little something for the wait staff, it will be very appreciated.

Shukran, Hamada, Sayed, Ameni, Achmed and all the other wonderful members of our Memphis tour team! Achmed, so sorry to cause you such distress in trying to keep us all safe while wandering the bazaar and streets of Cairo. Miss you all already.
