History of Dubai International Airport DXB

Heading to the Al Garhoud district, which is 4.6 km to the east of Dubai,  is situated the primary airport of Dubai of the UAE and the world listed as the fifth-busiest airport with international passenger traffic and the sixth-busiest cargo airport in the world and the highest average number of passengers per flight, Dubai International Airport (IATA: DXB, ICAO: OMDB).

The aviation movement is dated back to 1937 in Dubai, after a signed agreement for the aircraft of Imperial Airways for about 440 rupees per month, to fly from east to Karachi of India and west to Southampton, England, on a weekly bases up till 1938 the operating flights became 4 per week. By 1940, the aviation movement was operated by British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC).

The construction of Dubai Airport was once ordered by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, in 1959, to be officially opened in 1960, to handle aircraft of a Douglas DC-3 on a 1,800-metre-long runway made of the compacted sand runway. 
The foundations remain from early 1959 constructions could be seen by today as the control tower and The airport's fire station. 
By 1965, The first jet aircraft landed on the runway at Dubai Airport was a Comet from Middle East Airlines. In 1963, constructing the asphalt runway with 2,800 m. 

The new runway was opened in 1965 by the side of a taxiway and extensions were added to the Terminal Building, hangers, Airport, and Navigational aids, and the lighting system continued after the official opening. 
Renovations and expansions continued, till 1969 when the airport could serve up to 9 airlines serving some 20 destinations.
in 1966, Dubai airport inauguration was marked by the visit of the first big jets of Middle East Airlines and Kuwait Airways Comets.
